港大與京都大學發現新方法 可助提升禾稈草轉化為生物燃料的效能

香港大學 與京都大學的最新一項合作研究,使稻草的纖維素更容易被分解,釋放出可發酵成乙醇的糖份。水稻和其他穀物屬於禾本科植物。港大植物生化學家盧思聰博士、其學生林佩瑩博士與京都大學的木質素專家飛松裕基博士,兩年前開始合作,發現只要敲除合成麥黃酮的一個關鍵酵素「黃酮合酶II」(FNSII),稻草中的木質素含量亦會顯著減少約三分之一,使葡萄糖產量增加37%,而葡萄糖經過發酵後便成為乙醇。換言之,可減低處理木質素成本和增加乙醇產量。 此研究上的突破最近在著名的植物學期刊「植物生理學」Plant Physiology中發表。
