Cantonese: Culture and Identity of the Tongue

Cantonese the language experiences a dynamic and complex development in recent years amid the rapid social changes in Hong Kong. The increasingly widespread use of Putonghua is seen in various domains. Meanwhile, there are calls for preserving Cantonese as it represents a distinctive Hong Kong linguistic identity. In this talk, the editor and authors of The Politics of the Cantonese Language in Hong Kong (in Chinese) will illustrate the identity and cultural issues surrounding Cantonese.
