Hong Kong Agenda: Media Practitioners in the 'Era of Disobedience'
The leaders of the Occupy Central declared Hong Kong would enter an ‘era of disobedience’ after the NPCSC’s decision on 2017 election was adopted on 31 August 2014. During the 79-day sit-in, at least 24 journalists covering the protests faced attacks, TVB news reporters released an open letter to condemn narrative tampering, the road outside the Next Media office complex was blocked by anti-Occupy Central protesters, and the call for boycotting blue-ribbon events aroused controversy. Recently, Hong Kong has dropped to the 70th on the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index. How far is Hong Kong’s media ready for the ‘era of disobedience’? (Speakers: Mr. Ronald Chiu 趙應春先生 Dr. Fu King Wa 傅景華博士 Mr. Billy Ko 高志輝先生 Ms. Sham Yee Lan 岑倚蘭女士) This forum is part of the series Hong Kong Agenda and Umbrella Series by the General Education Unit, The University of Hong Kong.
