In layman language and through real examples, this talk will highlight how Statistics, as a powerful tool in Data Science, can help us extract the maximum amount of information from observational data in our daily life. The examples will be drawn from breast cancer, the SARS epidemic in 2003 in Hong Kong, Black Death in medieval Europe, pollution in Hong Kong and possibly others.
